Nearby, we visit the Botano mountain herb market, where local herbs reflect Crete’s long tradition of natural healing and sustainable living.

The journey then leads south to the legendary village of Matala, known for its famous sandstone caves carved into the cliffs. Once a Roman burial site and later a refuge for the hippie community of the 1960s, Matala still carries its relaxed and free-spirited atmosphere. You will have free time to swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Libyan Sea, explore the caves, or enjoy a coffee with spectacular sea views before returning comfortably to Heraklion.
